Introduction:

The purpose of the “1st National Congress of Creative Arts Therapies” is to provide a space to discuss clinical, research and training aspects of three of the creative therapies: Art Therapy, Dance Movement Therapy (DMT) and Music Therapy (MT). In response to the growing demands for new approaches to today’s problems in our society, we believe that we need to inform about what therapeutic treatments through artistic mediums can offer. Art Therapy, Dance Movement Therapy and Music Therapy are already well established in the majority of European countries and in the USA, and carry a body of scientific research which demonstrates their effectiveness and potential for the treatment of a great variety of problems, thus forming part of the new therapeutic resources. We also seek to provide a space for debate about the current situation within the social, health and education fields, to explore the perspectives for the future professional in these new therapies in our country, and to promote professional exchange and enrichment.
